Giddy Up

Well heck, y’all. It looks like I never posted #TheYearToBe___ kickass post I wrote. I guess, in part, because last week completely kicked my ass. (Yeah.) Perhaps it’s best to fast forward to this week; we are in the Ls; and the word of the week is lighthearted.

Luckily, the weather is gorgeous in the mornings here in Dallas, so I can escape the mall walkers and get out into nature. This morning, the Dallas bestie and I strolled through the Dallas Arboretum. It's always gorgeous, but it's especially awesome this time of year.

I confess, it's hard to feel grumpy when in the company of a super smiley ten week old baby girl and pretty, pretty green things. I left the arboretum with a decided kick in my step.

What are you up to this week?

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

It’s been about two years since I quit fannying about* and got serious about pursuing a writing career. No, not about two years, it has been two years

Back when I was considering making a move from solid, stable, and totally rewarding employment to iffy, shaky, and totally rewarding unemployment (let’s face it, until I sign and sell, I am pretty much unemployed--and even then, there are no guarantees), I made a plan. A GRAND PLAN.

At the top, of course, was the most outrageous goal: I will have a successful career as a writer.

Because I'm Happy...

This week's #TheYearToBe___ is HAPPY.

When the news is bad (and, my word, when has it not been terrible lately?), it's hard to maintain happiness for a moment, much less an entire week. But this week, I have so much to be happy about.

My parents are healthy and the cutest two people in west Texas. I got to laugh and smile until my cheeks hurt last night when my childhood BFF married a man who is so good to her, for her. I have a book coming out in September, and I have the pleasure of working with three of the most generous, talented women on the face of the earth.

And then there are the little things...

  • I ordered room-service breakfast this morning and the potatoes were covered in queso.
  • I'm already planning a super-rad nap this afternoon.
  • I get to snuggle with a poodle after lunch.
  • On the drive back to Dallas this week, I get to listen to more RWA recordings.
  • There's a six-and-a-half-week-old baby waiting for me in Dallas and cooler morning temperatures ahead.

What's making you happy today? I'd love to know! (Oh, yeah, I'm also running a giveaway of super fabulous things. Enter and you might be a teeny bit happier.)
