Five for Friday: Seventy Degrees Edition

Last week, I started a new-to-me blog series called Five for Friday wherein I list, lickety-split, five things I did to really seek out some beauty in the world and enjoy my #FriYAY!

Little did I know, it would inspire some writing besties to start their own. So this is my official NUMBER ONE on the list because it makes my heart happy to see Julia Kelly and Alexis Anne living out some good times.

The day is still young, but I've already got my Five for Friday:

1. Obvs: seeing Julia Kelly and Alexis Anne take #54Fri and make it their own. (Plus Sexy Lexy called me her glitter-sparkle leader and I ain't mad about it.)

2. Julia Kelly's coworkers got in the celebratory spirit and procured a rainbow unicorn for Ms. Kelly. I'm so glad she posted this picture so I can share it. It absolutely made my morning.

3. I celebrated the life of my writing mentor today. It was a bittersweet moment, to be sure, but sitting in the packed chapel was a beautiful experience. There was so much love and laughter in that room, and I know we all yearned to hear one more story. One more joke and see that lazy wink that always followed. Sitting there reminded me of that 20-something girl who sat in his office (laughing, crying, and laugh-crying) for two years and how far she's come...

And how she's still so much the same.

Mr. T. never poo-pooed my desire to write genre fiction. He never once denigrated romance and suggested I shoot for something approaching "lit-ra-chure." And his wisdom and no-nonsense approach to fiction is something I carry in my heart.

I'm grateful you were mine, even for a little while. <3

4. I've been designing up a storm over at Romanced by the Cover. And today, I got an order from Sticker Mule. I can't WAIT to share it with you. Just a few more weeks. (PS If you want $10 off your order, you can click this here link:

5. It's 76 degrees. And while I was a bit miffed I couldn't wear the pretty sweater I'd planned to wear to the service today, I'm loving the fresh air and blue skies.

Five for Friday

Since I left my day job, I've kind of become a little bit like the dowager Countess of Grantham: "what is a weekend?"

No, it's not because I'm a member of the aristocracy (though if you have an heir or a spare lying around, be sure and give him my number). It's because when you freelance, every day is a workday.

But I've decided that I'm going to make Fridays FriYAYs in 2017--sure, I'll get a little work done, but I'm going to celebrate life by doing extra fun things or enjoying little moments (or objects) and report back.

And if I miss one here or there, just know it's because I'm out having a fabulous time with a British spy who is also at a Navy SEAL and heir to a Dukedom. Who has a ranch in Wyoming and an island in the Maldives. And rides a motorcycle.

So here goes the inaugural Five for Friday:

1. Had a super fantastic lady lunch with my local braintrust. Cookies, laughter, and tears were shared. And plans for world domination, duh.

2. Return of blanket scarf weather!

3. It was raining so I couldn't go for a walk outside, so I decided to get a manicure with an extra long arm and hand massage.

4. I got news my childhood bff will be in town next week. < hallelujah hands

5. I got two awesome things in the mail – both of which will make productivity so much more beautiful. (And if you follow me on Instagram – especially Instagram stories – you already got a sneaky peek of them.)

I LOVE my ringly . (Yeah, that's a ginormo emerald.) Wearable tech FTW.

The Year of Possibilities

It's taken me a while to write my New Year, New You post...mostly because 2016 (in true 2016 style) went out with a bang. In the space of one crystalline hour, I launched my best friend into her newly married life--sparklers and all--and I received news of a death in the family. Thanks for that roller coaster, 2016.

So I’ve been a little slow to get into my 2017 planning. A little slow to get back to Dallas because I needed to spend more time at home. A little slow allowing my #HBIC work persona start running the show again after my personal #HBIC persona was running at 300% over the last few weeks.

I got naked on social media and posted my 2017 Guiding Principles and Q1 Goals. (PS thank you Bria Quinlan for your awesome Author Life Planner.)

But I’m back. In my space. With quiet when I need it and the bustle of other hustlers when I need it. I’ve gone on playdates with my Dallas bestie and her crew of adorable children, visited with my favorite baristas, done a little body and soul work—and tomorrow marks the return of the LLL luncheon with local loves Lindsay Emory and Ophelia London!

2017: you are on notice!
