Dîner en Blanc Dallas

It's after Labor Day, but this southern city is about to see more than a thousand people breaking all the rules! On Thursday, I'll join 1200 strangers at an undisclosed location for the first ever Dîner en Blanc in Dallas.

The event, though invitation only, is all very streamlined--registration online, online marketplace, message boards, &c. Not much like, I imagine, those first glamorous, mysterious, whispered-only Dîners en Blanc in Paris, but I'm absolutely delighted I was able to secure two seats!

After schlepping (in a very elegant manner, of course) a table, two chairs, and everything required for a fine dining experience to a rendezvous point, we'll travel to an undisclosed, iconic location in the Big D. Once there, we'll set up, dine, drink, laugh--and I've heard tell of a fireworks display.

All on a school night! (Good thing I have a very forgiving boss.)

Steak May Be King, But Dallas Loves Veggies, Too. I Promise.

Full disclosure: I grew up in west Texas, so I'm not really sure what all that green stuff is on plates. Is it decoration? KIDDING. Veggies are cool, and my vegetarian and vegan friends are, too.

Here's a list of Dallas Veggie/Vegan options for those of you coming to Dallas for the RT Convention in May. This list is not exhaustive--rather, it's the greatest hits. Places I have personally been to and/or places that come highly recommended by my friends. (My all-time GREATEST DALLAS HITS can be found here.)

So you’re planning to be in Dallas for RT15. I hope you have a car or are okay taking a cab/Uber because there’s not all that much next door to the Hyatt Regency, our conference hotel. That’s not to say you’re going to starve. You won’t. This local just wants to make sure you know you won’t be able to fall out of the hotel and into restaurants like you did in New Orleans last year.

In fact, we like to bandy about this little gem: Dallas (well, the entire Metroplex) has more restaurants per capita than New York City. You can eat reeeeeeeal good in our fair city.

I’ll devote several blogs to Dallas cuisine over the next week. Today’s is going to be governed by one theme: MY FAVORITES.  (The others will cover steak, fast-cas, Tex Mex, veggie/vegan, and close to the hotel, etc.)

Without further ado, and in no particular order, here are my favorite places to eat (and what I order) in Dallas…
