Dîner en Blanc Dallas

It's after Labor Day, but this southern city is about to see more than a thousand people breaking all the rules! On Thursday, I'll join 1200 strangers at an undisclosed location for the first ever Dîner en Blanc in Dallas.

The event, though invitation only, is all very streamlined--registration online, online marketplace, message boards, &c. Not much like, I imagine, those first glamorous, mysterious, whispered-only Dîners en Blanc in Paris, but I'm absolutely delighted I was able to secure two seats!

After schlepping (in a very elegant manner, of course) a table, two chairs, and everything required for a fine dining experience to a rendezvous point, we'll travel to an undisclosed, iconic location in the Big D. Once there, we'll set up, dine, drink, laugh--and I've heard tell of a fireworks display.

All on a school night! (Good thing I have a very forgiving boss.)

I've totally taken the easy way out and ordered one of the catering boxes. I'm already a little overwhelmed about toting table, chairs, ice chest, and china (+tablescape) to the event, so being able to pick up our food on site was a no brainer. Most of the Wolfgang Puck catering options were full of nuts of some sort, so this is the only option that worked for me. It looks decidedly summery, so maybe I'll add an heirloom tomato salad to the mix. (Let's just hope I don't end up wearing it by the end of the night.)

Speaking of, I haven't decided what I'm wearing as white is most definitely not a part of my wardrobe. Plus, it's supposed to be 99 degrees on Thursday (yuck!). Let's face it, it's me, so there will be a cardigan involved, and my friend is encouraging me to find a fascinator. But whatever it is, it will be white from top to bottom per the rules.

Have you ever attended at Dîner en Blanc? I'd love to hear about your experience. And while I'm excited to catch up with my friend and enjoy the event, I'm so eager to people watch. Oh my gravy! It promises to be outrageous and awesome.

I'll probably Insta the heck out of it, so make sure you're following me on Instagram / WriterAHaughton
